FPrimeC Solutions Inc. was engaged by the client to perform Low Strain Impact Integrity Testing (or Pile Integrity Testing) to estimate the unknown length of concrete piles to be reused to carry the capacity of a new sign, in a plaza parking lot in Richmond Hill, ON.

    Low Strain Pile Integrity Test

    After properly exposing the concrete pile heads, FPrimeC cleaned the surfaces by brushing away dirt and grinding the concrete surface to prepare for the Low Strain Pile Integrity Test. A motion transducer (iPile) was placed on the pilehead using a bonding agent, and a hand-held hammer was used to strike the concrete surfaces and create stress waves. Assuming a constant velocity in the concrete is maintained and the time taken for the wave to return to the surface, an estimated depth was able to be determined.
