Structural Condition Assessment of Steel Silo
FPrimeC Solutions was retained by Client in plastic manufacturing plant to perform structural condition assessment of steel silo in its facilities located in Barrie, ON. The silo shell showed sign of mild rust, and extensive corrosion at the base. The main objective of the inspection and structural assessment was to evaluate the current condition of silos, and their adequacy for different loading scenarios.
Visual Inspection
Digital visual inspection was performed by FPrimeC structural engineers. All existing deficiencies were identified, and quantified.
Nondestructive Testing for Steel Silo
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) was performed to assess the thickness of steel element at the areas of interest across the shell. The objective was to determine the extent of ongoing corrosion, especially at the lower part of the silo (near the ground level). The assessment helped structural engineering team evaluate the existing capacity, and design a cost effective repair solutions.
